Neyers Left Bank Red 2019

Description
It's a blend of equal parts of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grown on the clay/gravel/basalt mix of soils that sit on the left bank of Conn Creek as it flows through our property in Conn Valley from Howell Mountain to Lake Hennessey. Dave Abreu planted most of the Cabernet Sauvignon on our ranch in the higher elevation, rockier soils on the northernmost parcels. These vines are now 25 years old and in the sweet spot of their production life. All of them are sustainably farmed by the Maldonado Family Farming Company, yields are kept low, and with the sun following the rows of the vines from dawn to dusk, we get slow, even ripening on the south face of the vines. One of the most common observations we heard this year was how Bordelais in style and taste the wine seemed. The factors of lower alcohol, even ripening, and moderate barrel treatment all lend themselves to this. Most importantly, though, this is a very attractive California Cabernet Sauvignon blended with enough Merlot to make the wine complex, yet bright and fresh. Wine at its best is invariably like that
